The film by Harald Zwart, “Karate Kid” is a touching story of a teenage boy called Dre Parker, who is successful in karate in his twelve years. Played by Jaden Smith, the main hero is about to become a legend of karate in Detroit. But the circumstances are such that Dre has to forget about it soon. Due to his mother career, the boy has to leave US for China. New country with its culture and traditions, new school and new classmates appear in the life of Dre.
The boy gets acquainted with his mate Mei Ying, and their meeting initiated Dre into a new feeling called love. Soon it became evident, that his passion for Mei is mutual, but the friendship of such kind is under question because of cultural and other differences. Moreover Dre’s love to Mei causes deep-rooted hatred in Cheng, a well known squabble in his class. Dre’s karate appears to be nothing in comparison to his opponent’s skills in kung fu. To put Dre on the floor is an easy task for Cheng. Born in the country, where martial arts were the traditional part of the culture, Cheng represents a real threat to the karate kid and his relations with Mei.
Mr. Han, played by Jackie Chan, becomes the only friend and supporter of the boy in this strange country. He is eager to share his secret knowledge of kung fu with Dre, and he finds a good pupil in Parker.
